@Czech_Meowt, 30 – FUNDED

When it comes to streaming, Lydia Czech — @Czech_Meowt on Twitch — has slightly different goals in mind. Her gameplay is all about wellness, as she uses her channel to document her personal path to a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle in hopes it will likewise support others. This BroadcastHER Grant recipient explores wellness-related topics with her community while also providing sound therapy and guided meditations. She also live-streams interactive hikes in scenic Montana and features interviews with medical practitioners and other experts. Here’s what else this nontraditional streamer had to say.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to improve the health and wellness of our Twitch community.

How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

I will acquire a live-streaming backpack, allowing my followers and me to enjoy interactive hikes throughout scenic Montana while focusing on the health benefits of spending time outdoors. We will also visit various health practitioners to explore different healing options.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?

Receiving the BroadcastHER Grant is a tremendous honor. To be awarded this grant means I reached my goal for 2018 and I am filled with gratitude and excitement for the possibilities that are ahead in 2019. I look forward to creating content to help people improve their well-being.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

We can continue to lift women up by encouraging original and creative content that promotes positivity and inclusiveness. Instead of acting in competitive ways and creating copy-cat content that follows popular trends, female streamers should support one another in making unique content, sharing community, and being kind to one another.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

I have overcome many challenges along the way to being awarded this opportunity. First of all, it was difficult to find the funds to start streaming. There was also a huge learning curve in doing the research regarding the necessary technology to achieve the stream content I wanted to produce. Also, I became affiliated in one short month — just in time to apply for the grant — all while balancing college, multiple jobs, and streaming. But, I am glad I never gave up and kept persevering through these challenges to continue to work towards my dreams.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Believe in yourself. Focus on what you can change and what you have control over, and let go of the rest. Take tiny steps toward your goal every day — even if it’s just to learn one new thing that will help you in the future. If you don’t know where to start, learning where to start is your goal. Step forward with love, compassion, and understanding. Consider what message you have for the world, and find your voice.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I wake up every day and remind myself that, ultimately, it is my goal to make the world a better place — one small step at a time. I realize that I have influence over situations around me and that, by acting from a place of love, I can help people — one individual at a time. Just realizing that makes a difference, and it keeps me going when life gets tough.
