@CtrlAltQuin, 30 – FUNDED

Comedian, Star Wars fanatic, and semi gamer, @CtrlAltQuin possesses a dark sense of humor. But, don’t let that fool you. She’s extremely open and friendly! By day, the BroadcastHER Grant winner works in office administration and human resources. But, when she streams, it’s all about making friends, making wholesome and maybe slightly morbid jokes, and playing games.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to be full-time comedian and broadcaster in the gaming industry. I want to be a positive representation of inclusive and diverse comedic game commentary.

How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

With this grant, I will be able to upgrade essential parts of my setup, lighting, green screen, and more, which will allow me to make more creative content.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?

It has given me an amazing sense of validation for my content creation and confidence. To know that I am seen and supported makes me feel like my dreams are absolutely and without a doubt possible. I am so honored to be a part of this program.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

In order to make our voices heard. we must never stop being vocal. Continuing to go live, connect, and support one another in this industry will not only help us diversify the community, it will also inspire future broadcasters and esports professionals!

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

Streaming has been a wild and amazing ride, but I feel like my biggest struggle has been finding my tribe — or feeling like I don’t fit in with other comedians on Twitch. Trying to create a more inclusive comedy gaming scene for a category that doesn’t really exist has also been hard. But I’ve learned to keep going live and focus on who is there.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Be kind to yourself; be patient; and know it’s okay to take breaks. If you aren’t having fun, reevaluate your goals. I think a huge part of a broadcaster’s success is being able to be introspective about all things related to what you create. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I stay motivated by remembering why I started. I look back often only to see how far I’ve come. And, I keep my passion alive by falling in love with my goals all over again. This is especially important on the off days.
