What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

I want to be a streamer/writer for a game company.

How will the BroadcastHER Student Scholarship from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

This will help me reach my goals by allowing me to upgrade equipment to improve the quality of my stream, while also allowing me to meet many others through this program.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Student Scholarship mean to you?

Being a recipient has taught me that others see potential in me — potential that I might not always see in myself. Being a recipient kickstarted my motivation to seriously pursue a job in this industry as my lifelong career instead of as a side hobby.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

We can continue to uplift women in this community by funding their dreams through scholarships, organizing all girl/women e-sports tournaments, and spotlighting successful women in the industry to speak to girls with gaming aspirations.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

When I first started streaming, I reached affiliate pretty quickly with the help of my supportive friends and by promoting myself. I was told that it’s “easier” for girls regarding streaming. However, this connects to another challenge I face which is the fear of using my mic in game communication because I don’t want to be harassed by guys.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

A lot of people will diminish your accomplishments simply because you’re a “girl/woman,” but they’re wrong. Being a woman/girl in this industry is incredibly difficult because you’re constantly facing hateful men or being harassed while trying to play a game — or, you’re being sexualized on stream. My advice is to keep pushing through — especially if this is your dream.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I stay motivated and focused by looking at the people I surround myself with, including other streamers, supportive friends, and family. Every day, they remind me to keep doing what makes me happy and that reminder is substantial to keeping me on track.
