@Bwittany, 30 – FUNDED
A couple years ago, @Bwittany moved across the country from California to Alabama — and that’s when she decided to start streaming as a way to make connections and new friends. Fast forward to now, and this BroadcastHER Grant winner has built what she calls an “amazing and supportive family” and she’s forever grateful for that.
You’ll mainly find her streaming Just Dance, RPGs, story-based games, and Beat Saber — and be on the lookout for her two Sphynx cats — the hairless breed — that like to steal the show from time to time.
What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
I want to be someone who others look up to for inspiration and positive energy.
How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
This will greatly increase my stream quality to provide the entertainment I strive to display for my community.
What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?
It’s such an honor to have my name alongside all these strong women. I’m sure they’ve also felt undeserving of it as I have, and I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
Use our voices! Speak out more about women in gaming and create more normality in it. Out of personal experience, there is an embarrassment that comes with saying you’re a female gamer and broadcaster. We need to work to get past that feeling and realize we belong here just as much as anyone else.
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
As someone who is known for streaming Just Dance, it’s hard to be taken seriously and get past some of the terrible comments I’ve received.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
Just go for it! The experience is different for everyone, but we all have to start from the beginning. Just press start, be your genuine self, and you’ll find that your channel as well as yourself, will grow. There will be people who try to make you feel small, but their words aren’t as powerful as your passion.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
I think about all the positive things that have come from the journey. I’ve met amazing people from all around the world who I can call my friends. I’ve had incredible opportunities that have opened up to me. Most importantly, I’ve grown so much as a person, and I know I’ll just grow more from here.
