Bruna Rocha, 21 – FUNDED

Bruna Rocha is shooting for the stars, literally! This New Face of Tech wants to be an engineer for SpaceX. Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, she is studying mechanical engineering at University of Michigan.

What does being the New Face of Tech mean to you?

It motivates me to go towards my dreams in tech, and I would like to incentive girls like me to break financial barriers to pursue a science degree.

Women are underrepresented in STEAM. How can we change this?

I believe if we support each other and support nonprofit organizations, such as 1DF, we can change this.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

When I first came to the U.S., I came as a nanny through an au pair program. However, today I’m in college. With my dedication, I broke financial barriers to follow my dreams to study here.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I try to be very involved in clubs and research at school. That’s because being hands-on with things helps me to be more motivated.

How will funding from the 1,000 Dreams Fund and HARMAN help you reach your goals?

This grant will have an immense impact on my education with textbooks and any other materials needed.
