@BrittSoMe, 21 – FUNDED

As a self-taught, multi-talented creative from Brooklyn, New York, @BrittSoMe is passionate about having an open and accepting space for anyone to join her stream and have fun. The BroadcastHER Student Scholarship winner loves K-pop, anime, games, fashion, art, and music — and is also a mental health advocate, discussing her own mental health experiences to inspire others and let them know that they aren’t alone.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to make a space for people of color and plus-size people to be themselves and love the skin that they are in. Mental health is also very important to me, so I would like to have an open space for that discussion with no judgments.

How will the BroadcastHER Student Scholarship from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

It will help me upgrade my camera from my iPhone to an actual high-def camera, so now I will be able to do cool portrait photography shots and film higher quality videos.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Student Scholarship mean to you?

This means sooooo much to me! I am so thankful for this opportunity. I can now move one step closer to my goals.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

In order for change to happen, we have to actually listen to the voices that are talking. Women in the industry speak up every day and it’s now up to everyone to actually listen and support.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

A lot of challenges I’ve faced have been mental challenges. Depression kept me unmotivated for two years and now I am fighting my way out (so far so good!). I just have to keep remembering my close support system and believe in myself to keep going.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

BE YOU, SIS! PERIODT! Just be your amazing authentic self. You don’t have to look like Kim Kardashian. You don’t have to act like anybody else. Being you is perfectly fine and your audience is out there for you. So, keep grinding!!!

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I watch a lot of artists and YouTubers who inspire me, and when that doesn’t work, I try to not focus on the end goal and just start having fun — that helps keep the stress down.
