Avery, 19 – FUNDED

Avery, a first-year architecture student at Kansas State University, has big dreams to have her own architectural firm one day. In the meantime, the 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship recipient is taking it one semester at a time — always trying to make each one better and grow both educationally and personally.

What is your professional dream?

I hope to own an architectural firm of my own someday.

How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?
I will use the award to supplement my studies by buying supplies for my studio projects.

How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?

This award helps me produce higher quality work when I am able to purchase premiumm supplies for my projects in architecture school.

What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?

I advise young women to surround themselves with like-minded people who are supportive of their goals. Also, don’t be afraid to take risks sometimes.

Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?

I suffered a few financial setbacks that left me unsure of whether I would be able to attend college or not. I was able to move forward by working hard in both school and the workplace, funding my education via scholarships and personal savings.

What’s next for you? What is your next goal?

I am taking my education one year at a time. My overall goal is to make each school year better than the one before. I always aim to grow as both a designer and a person.
