If you couldn’t tell by her Twitch handle, @Anya_Tekken is all about Tekken, the Japanese fighting game series. This BroadcastHER Grant winner streams Tekken 7 in English and Spanish!

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

I would love to stream, compete, organize events, commentate, and do any other Tekken-related activity full-time.

How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

It will help me get most of the equipment necessary to build my PC setup.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?

It means the world to me!!! I am so incredibly excited of what’s to come with my Twitch stream and other Tekken activities. Thank you so much!!

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

Make them feel welcome and create safe environments for them to join esports competitions. I will be hosting The Queen of Iron Fist Latam (Tekken 7 tournament) later this year, so stay tuned for that!!!

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

Unhealthy criticism, misogyny, and ill-willed people… but I will never let any of these things stop me.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT EVER let your dreams be dreams. You are capable of everything you put your mind to.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I like to have everything I want to achieve right in front of me with deadlines. I use Trello to keep my goals in mind and move them to “done” when completed. It’s super-helpful!
