Anita B., 17 – FUNDED

Some of Anita B.’s advice is to always strive to be your best, despite the obstacles. And, this 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship recipient knows about obstacles, having had her parents deported. Still, she stayed on track with her dreams and will be attending Northwestern University.

What is your professional dream?

I want to be an orthopedic surgeon.

How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?

I will put it towards university costs.

How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?

It will be used for tuition, so I may get my degree.

What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?

Always strive to be the best person you can be, regardless of the obstacles you face.

Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?

My parents were deported. But rather than being limited by that, I used that adversity as motivation.

What’s next for you? What is your next goal?

I will be getting a degree in biomedical engineering and then going to med school for a future career as an orthopedic surgeon.
