Anaya Iglesias, 18 – FUNDED

“A small action can go a long way — and always keep the end goal in mind!” says Anaya Iglesias, a 1,000 Dreams Fund Scholarship winner. It’s great advice — and there’s no doubt she’ll continue following it at University of Miami, where she’ll be studying nursing.

What is your professional dream?

I want to become a Registered Nurse and real estate owner.

How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship?

I’ll use this scholarship to fund expenses, such as books and meals, as well as transportation, such as flights home to family.

How is this scholarship helping you get closer to your dream?

It relieves some of the stress I have been under while planning for college. Furthermore, I am reassured that expenses I would have otherwise not been able to pay for are now able to be covered. I am so very grateful to 1DF for this.

What advice do you have for other young women who are wanting to pursue their dreams?

Take a leap of faith and research what is needed for your dream to come true. Whether that looks like applying for internships, scholarships, or asking a teacher to be a mentor, all of these can lead you in the right direction.

Have you had any setbacks? How did you move past them?

Yes, one major setback was losing my house when I was 13. My family and I had to live with my grandma for a few years and I shared a room with my mom. Along the way, I would focus on my studies because I knew it was something I had control over. Today, I know that although I may not have the most secure finances, I have to better myself for a happy and generous life.

What’s next for you? What is your next goal?

Next up is my first year of college. I’m extremely excited to start this fall and a goal of mine is to network with some of the students/faculty in my career path and start to volunteer at a local hospital.
