@anatasetv, 22 – FUNDED

@anatasetv (pronounced a·nuh·teiz) is a non-binary (they/them) streamer who focuses on creating a comfortable and inclusive space on the internet while playing story-driven and interactive games. When this BroadcastHER Grant recipient is not gaming, they are probably making art, brainstorming cosplays, or learning about astrology.

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

I want to create a space online where others feel comfortable being themselves while playing cozy and interactive games.

How will your award from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

This award is allowing me to build my first desktop computer, which will allow me to provide higher-quality content and new types of content.

What does being a recipient mean to you?

It means the world to me. Content creation has been a dream of mine for years, and when I discovered streaming three years ago, I knew I had found my home. This grant is allowing me to upgrade my setup, which will finally let me produce content at the level of quality that I want.

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

The obvious answer to this is to give women the same space, the same invitations, and the same level of voice as we give men. As women, we need to stand up for each other and interrupt and be loud when we see injustices happening in these spaces.

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

I have found that consistent growth is harder. I’m back-seated more often than men who play at the same level as me, and I have been sexually harassed both on and off Twitch since I started streaming.

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

My number-one piece of advice is to just start — even if you don’t think your equipment or graphics or knowledge is “enough.” This industry is ever-evolving, and you have all of the time in the world to learn new things and improve your equipment. With that, don’t give up when you’re facing roadblocks or rejection; use those to fuel yourself more. I know this is easier said than done, but it’s a necessity in this industry.

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

I’m going to be honest; I lose my motivation easily. When I can feel my spark starting to burn out, I take time for myself to refocus and really narrow down what I want to do. I always come back to streaming with a new kind of light inside, a new game plan for achieving my goals, and new things that I want to try and do.
