@AmberGlowYoga, 32 – FUNDED
Amber, AKA @AmberGlowYoga, is a different kind of streamer — she’s a certified yoga instructor and teaches classes live on Twitch. It’s all part of this BroadcastHER Grant winner’s passion to help others — especially broadcasters! — move their bodies mindfully for health and happiness. She’s a self-described “goofy ball of sunshine.” But, that doesn’t mean that she also doesn’t love playing the scariest of horror games, in addition to her namaste vibe.
What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?
I want to help people get healthier and happier through movement and mindfulness.
How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?
I will be able to hire an illustrator for my first book, which will be released in 2020. The book will hopefully inspire gamers to move more and learn to listen to the needs of their bodies.
What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?
It is an honor to receive this grant! It makes me feel that my vision has traction and others see it as valuable and worth pursuing.
Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?
As women, we should encourage each other to be strong and pursue our dreams. We have to learn to tune out the discouragement and persevere. Disregard societal expectations and fearlessly press on towards your goals. Be relentless!
What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?
Self-doubt has been my biggest challenge. Negative self-talk is a virus and it will eat you alive if you allow it. I strive to resist and use mindfulness techniques to daily remind myself of my value.
What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?
Know what you have to offer: What makes you special? What skills do you have? Do you want to educate or entertain or inspire? Be clear and specific in your goals. Create action steps to achieve them. Then, stick to it! Build your confidence up so you can start using those tools.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?
My community drives me. Once people started reaching out with questions about how to live a healthier life, I knew I couldn’t quit. Gamer culture needs more movement; we need better eating habits; we need rest. Being a voice for that change is important to me. I am constantly educating myself and deepening my knowledge, so I am better able to serve.
