Alexia, 18 – FUNDED

The new year is a great time to focus on new goals and dreams. Alexia Crockett from St. Louis, Missouri has big plans as she embarks on her journey to college. Alexia is one of our #MyDream2017 winners and plans to use her funding for tuition at Agnes Scott College, where she’ll be starting in the fall.
What is your professional dream?
My professional dream is to become a pediatrician.
How will you use the 1,000 Dreams Fund grant?
I will use this grant for my tuition.
What advice do you have for other young women looking to go for their dreams?
I would tell other young women to reach for the stars…and then some. Do not let anyone, no matter how close they are to you, tell you how to run your life. No one else will be more impacted by your decisions than you, so you should live your life the way you want. And, regret nothing. You are the author of your life and should not let someone else try to write your story.
Any setbacks? How did you get around them?
A major setback I had this year was paying my tuition and understanding all the resources available to help me with it. I have since become more educated on outside resources and aid and also talked to people at my school to help me find solutions. I would say that becoming more aware of my situation and the many solutions has definitely helped me and prepared me.
What’s next for you? What is your next goal?
My next goal is to complete my undergraduate in a good standing to prepare myself for medical school. By working hard and tirelessly these next few years, I plan to be a pediatrician in no time.
