@AirAngel, 27 – FUNDED

@AirAngel grew up playing on Nintendo consoles and handhelds — and she still loves retro as well as indie games. What’s really unique about her channel, though, is that it is 100% nonprofit. She donates all her revenue to charity. It’s just one of the ways this BroadcastHER Grant winner is bringing positive vibes to Twitch. As she says: “We’re all just trying to live in this crazy world; might as well make the best of it!”

What is your dream as a digital broadcaster?

My dream is to play video games for charity while providing a positive and safe space for everyone.

How will the BroadcastHER Grant from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

With this grant, I’ll be able to afford more games, consoles, equipment, and travel costs for marathons and charity events.

What does being the recipient of the BroadcastHER Grant mean to you?

This means that I can continue to donate all of my stream and merchandise earnings to charity without putting any financial burden on my husband and me. I hope to make my stream self-sustaining with both this grant and other gaming tech companies to further our cause and create premium content!

Women are underrepresented in gaming, broadcasting, and e-sports. What can we do to change this?

Keep having the discussion with big gaming companies and esports team. Do not stop the conversation to promote women with amazing skills!

What are some of the challenges you have faced along the way?

As someone who graduated in mathematics and is in a STEM career, I’ve been battling sexism my whole life. Not only that, I chose to be a speed runner/streamer which is also male dominated. Most of the comments are usually “oh you stream for attention” or “your breasts take viewers”. The joke’s on them, though. I don’t use a camera or post any photos (to protect my career) and I still have an amazing community AND we’re growing!

What advice do you have for women who want to start broadcasting?

Ask questions! If you have friends who stream, ask about their setup, software, etc. Also, do not take anything personal, as there are trolls out there that will try to drag you down!

How do you stay motivated and focused on your goals?

For the first time in a decade, I feel like I have found a community that genuinely cares about each other and giving to charity and those in need. I will continue to do my best, because it makes me happy and it helps others!
