About MentorHER
Young women in the U.S. need more mentors, whether in college or in the workplace, to help them reach their dreams. But mentors can be hard to find.
1,000 Dreams Fund’s MentorHER Initiative was created to begin a national dialogue about the importance of mentorship and its positive impact on the professional advancement of young women – especially those in most need – while connecting them with the right mentor for a high impact mentoring session.
Over the course of the year, MentorHER connects our partner companies and their employees to college or graduate students or early-stage professionals for our signature 1:1, 60-minute virtual mentoring sessions.
It was great talking to an established and successful professional because I don’t know a lot of people I have access to who I could’ve asked those kinds of questions to. She had a lot of experience in the industry that I found extremely insightful because I am interested in pursuing that career as well.

How Does It Work
We know that busy working professionals want to share their hard-won advice as mentors, but often have limited time to do so. Our MentorHER Initiative was created to help provide them an opportunity to do so!
All we ask from our selected mentors is to be available for a virtual 60 minute mentoring session.
For students – we want to find you the right mentor for the most effective session. Simply submit a detailed mentee application and wait to hear from our team for matching and scheduling details.
- STEP 1: Call for Mentors! Each season, 1,000 Dreams Fund puts out a call for mentors. Most, if not all of our mentors come from our partner companies and organizations. Individual professionals are welcome.
- STEP 2: Call for Mentees! Throughout the year, we invite women students and recent graduates to apply to be mentored. We take participants year-round and our application remains open on a rolling basis.
- STEP 3: The Right Match! Using the results of customizable questionnaires provided to both parties, 1,000 Dreams Fund makes the match and prepares everyone for their MentorHER Session! We provide you with a quick guide for an effective session and offer an easy sign up process all completed on the 1DF website.
MentorHER History
Originally driven by a series of local events in 2019 during the week of International Day of the Girl, 1,000 Dreams Fund’s MentorHER Initiative reinforces the notion that even a small amount of time can make a big impact.
The 2019 pilot of the MentorHER Initiative received such positive feedback our team worked on expanding the program offering to create greater accessibility for students. The MentorHER Initiative grew into a three-pronged approach aimed at bringing mentorship to women everywhere. Our current MentorHER program offering includes:
- Signature Virtual 1:1 MentorHER Session
- Virtual MentorHER Workshop & Masterclass Series
- Experiential MentorHER Day

Get Involved
Through our initiative, our corporate and non-profit partners have the chance to mentor a diverse group of college women from across the country while leading the conversation about the importance of mentoring the next generation of young women pursuing careers in their industries.
Additionally, we have been able to create pipeline opportunities for partners and for internship, job fairs or other recruitment goals they may have through MentorHER.
The MentorHER Initiative celebrates the fact that even a small amount of time can have a big impact, and so far we have served over 700 hours of mentorship!
