1DF x Amazon x Twitch Present: '1000DreamsHack' - All Girls Hackathon @ Yale

Cracking the code on greater diversity & inclusion in tech

Are you a sophomore or junior in college and are dreaming of a career in tech? Do you want the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded young women and leading mentors in tech?

We want YOU to join us for 1DF x Amazon x Twitch’s first-ever 1000DreamsHack – an All-Girls Hackathon event at Yale University.

What to Expect

  • Come experience connecting with young women passionate about S.T.E.A.M. (science, tech, engineering, arts and math) on the Yale campus in New Haven, Connecticut.
  • Join us for a day of fun, mentorship and stepping up your coding skills!
  • You will walk away with a wealth of experience, fantastic memories and connections that will last long after the event!
  • Travel grants of up to $100 are available for a select number of participants based on financial need.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops. A small number of laptops will be available to students without access to one.
  • For participants traveling from out-of-state and will need a place to stay, housing for both Friday (Sept. 13th) and Saturday (Sept. 14th) evening will be provided by free by Yale students. Housing assignment will be distributed upon arrival and check-in at Yale.
  • Prizing will be provided by Corsair. More details to follow!

How Does It Work?

Never participated in a hackathon before? Or maybe you are a hackathon pro. Either way, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is intended to give you a crash-course experience on what it takes to develop innovative new tools to make popular streaming site Twitch better for streamers and viewers.

1000DreamsHack will take place on September 14th, 2019 from 8 AM to 8 PM EST.

  • 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM ET: Participant arrival; participant check-in; breakfast
  • 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM ET: Introduction; team assignment; presentation of available templates
  • 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM ET: Hackathon competition period (lunch and snacks will be made available to participants during this period)
  • 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM ET: Dinner; judging; award ceremony

How To Apply

Interested? Submit your application NOW! Space is limited at the Hackathon site and 100 individual participant slots are available. Spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first serve basis. If you register after all spaces have been allocated, you will be assigned a waiting list number and may be called to participate if someone is deemed ineligible or drops out. View full rules.

Eligibility

Terms and Conditions (a complete set of terms and conditions are available in the Official Rules)

To be eligible to enter and participate in the Hackathon, you must:

  • be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States;be willing and able to travel to Yale University in New Haven, CT at your own expense (a select number of travel grants are available) to participate in the Hackathon on-site;
  • be currently enrolled in and attending an undergraduate degree program, ideally in your sophomore or junior year;
  • on September 14th, arrive at Hackathon location at 100 Wall Street, New Haven, CT 06511 on Yale University’s campus no later than 8:45 AM ET, and remain on-site until 8:00 PM ET or the end of the Hackathon event, whichever is earlier;
  • complete and submit the application form for the Hackathon by clicking on the registration link (or if you are below the age of majority in your state of residence, your parent or legal guardian must complete and submit the registration form);
  • accept and adhere to the Official Rules (or if you are below the age of majority in your state of residence, your parent or legal guardian must accept and adhere to the Official Rules on his/her and your behalf).

How to Enter

  1. Let us know your interested! Apply at this link by Wednesday, September 11, 2019 11:59 ET.
  2. Watch your email for acceptance and additional information (you will be notified no later than Thursday, September 12th, 2019 11:59 PM ET). Please note that space is limited to 100 participants to ensure maximum collaboration and time, should you want it, with our on-site experts.
  3. Have fun exploring the Resources to help get your creative juices flowing.

And don’t forget, if you are accepted or want to explore on your own make sure you download the Twitch Developer Rig before September 14th. Also familiarity with the following in advance would be helpful: Twitch.tv; HTML; a script programming language; method/function invocation and data exchange.
