This #WomensHistoryMonth, we are bringing you stories of inspiration from real women who are changing the face of tech! Brianna Leonard, VP, Program Management & Quality at HARMAN, always knew she loved science. Read her inspiring story and share how YOU are #NewFaceOfTech for a chance to win $2,000 for your tech dreams!
When did you realize tech was your dream?
I’ve ALWAYS loved science; as long as I have been able to create memories. My youngest memory is probably kindergarten, when we were asked to dress up as what we wanted to be when we grew up. I remember that I started crying at the dinner table because I wanted to be both a princess and an astronaut. My mom said simply, “Then you’ll be a princess-astronaut!” Why can’t a girl in a royal family also drive a spaceship? You can be anything you want to be.
Talk about studying tech.
My high school was one of the few in the state to offer an electronics class — you get to build a robot! I LOVED it even though it meant I could not take lunch and recess. I had to skip recess. I focused on what was fun for me. It is what has lead me to where I am today.
Do you have any advice for young women interested in tech?
Have fun! Do what you love with determination and passion. Don’t ask permission and don’t ask forgiveness. It’s your choice and your life. No one else’s opinion or judgment matters — only yours. Do what you love. If you love tech, go get it!
