Mia Farrow is an athlete with big dreams! The 16-year-old junior at Turner High School in Kansas City, Kansas is an aspiring pediatrician who is eager for college. Like many students, she’s currently deciding between three prospective schools, but the ability to afford college is a common factor among them all. Mia shares how the support of the 1,000 Dreams Fund is a step in that direction.

What inspires you to follow your dreams?

People always say you have to be good at science and math to be a doctor and I’m good at both. I also like taking care of kids and I want to work in the medical field.

What are some of the challenges you have faced while reaching for your dreams?

Finances have been a challenge. Even through the difficult things, I always keep trying. My ultimate goal is to be happy and make my mom proud.

What schools are you looking to attend?

I have been looking at Emporia State University, Penn State, and the University of Kansas (KU). KU has sent me a lot of stuff in the mail and they have a good medical program. I am not set on one yet.

How will funding from the 1,000 Dreams Fund help you reach your goals?

All the help that I can get would be great. Right now, as far as money, I have a slim chance of going to college. I have been applying for scholarships since school started so I have been working hard on funding.

What schools will you use the funding to visit?

I would want to tour one out-of-state school but most of the schools I would visit are in Kansas.

Why is college important to you?

I want to be successful. As I get older, I want to be able to be independent. I’m more excited about going to college than I was high school. College just seems really fun!
