Five Days to Help Close the Dream Gap Together with 1,000 Dreams Fund’s Fall Fundraiser

Opportunity is what turns dreams into futures.

That’s why, from September 14–18, 1,000 Dreams Fund is launching Closing the Dream Gap — a five-day fall fundraiser with a goal of raising $5,000 to expand access to education, mentorship, and career opportunities for young women and students in need so they can pursue their goals.

And there’s a reason we’re ending the campaign on September 18: International Equal Pay Day.

Equal Pay Starts Long Before the Paycheck

International Equal Pay Day is an important reminder that women continue to earn less than men on average — a gap that can affect everything from financial security and retirement savings to career advancement and economic independence.

But there’s another part of the conversation we don’t talk about enough: Equal pay doesn’t begin with the paycheck. It begins much earlier.

By ages 8 to 14, girls’ confidence plummets by nearly 30%, while boys’ confidence stays largely the same. That’s when the Dream Gap takes hold — and it only widens with time.

It continues when a young woman can’t afford to pursue the same educational opportunities; when she doesn’t have access to a mentor who can help her navigate her career; when she doesn’t have professional connections that open doors; and when she doesn’t have access to an internship or early career opportunity that gives her experience and puts her on a path toward advancement.

In other words, economic opportunity starts with opportunity itself. That’s where 1,000 Dreams Fund comes in.

Closing the Gap Between Dreams and Opportunity

Young women shouldn’t have to scale back their dreams because they can’t afford the next step. They shouldn’t miss an opportunity because they don’t have the right connections. And they shouldn’t have to navigate an unfamiliar career path without someone in their corner.

Through our programs and partnerships, 1,000 Dreams Fund works to help close those gaps by providing the resources, relationships, and pathways young women and students in need must gain access to in order to move forward.

  • Funding can help remove financial barriers that stand between a student and her goals.
  • Mentorship can connect young women with people who can offer guidance, encouragement, and insight into what’s possible.
  • Hiring opportunities can provide the experience, connections, and confidence that help turn education into economic opportunity.

These aren’t just resources. They can be turning points.

A grant can make it possible for a student to say yes to an opportunity she otherwise couldn’t afford. A mentor can introduce her to a career she never knew existed. An internship can become a first job, a professional connection, or the beginning of a career. And one opportunity can change what a young woman believes is possible for herself.

Help Us Close the Dream Gap

From September 14-18, we’re asking our community to come together around one simple goal: Raise $5,000 to help create more opportunities for young women in need.

Every gift helps us invest in the things that can move a woman in need closer to her dreams.

When we invest in young women, we’re not just supporting one student or one dream. We’re helping create a ripple effect that can extend into careers, families, communities, and generations.

Dreams alone aren’t enough. Opportunity is what turns dreams into futures.

This International Equal Pay Day, let’s look beyond the paycheck and invest in what comes before it.

Let’s make education more accessible.

Let’s create more mentorship opportunities.

Let’s open more career doors.

Let’s give women and students in need the chance to see just how far their dreams can take them.

Together, let’s close the Dream Gap!
