1DF Ends 2018 With a Fundraising Bang — Plus, Announcing Our Fall 2018 1DF-Twitch BroadcastHER Grant Recipients!

As the New Year approaches and we look back on 2018, we have our own kind of fireworks going on around here!

Thanks to YOU, we have raised more than $50,000 over the past 12 months for our 1DF-Twitch BroadcastHER program — and that translated into 60 grants to outstanding young women in the community we made this year [link to our BH grant program page]. These women are pursuing their dreams as broadcasters, streamers and eSports gamers, and we are excited to be able to help propel them further

We kicked off 2018 with our first-ever Streams for Dreams charity event [link to press release on site re announcement] in partnership with the Twitch community, which raised $44,000 in one month and provided grants to underserved female content creators.

Then, to round out the year on a high note, we held our Stream the Halls event on December 18-19, raising more than $10,000!

During the event, we were proud to announce the Fall 2018 recipients of the 1DF-Twitch BroadcastHER Grant:

These 10 women from across the world, including Austria, Brazil, England, and the United States, join the inaugural group of 50 grant recipients that we announced during a live-stream event at our Twitch headquarters earlier this year

“I am so inspired by the winners’ creativity and unique ways they’re using the grants to help reach their career goals,” said 1DF founder and CEO Christie Garton. “We even have a winner who is a teacher by day — and a Guinness World Record holder by night — who is raising money for charity through her streaming and promoting video gaming in schools.”

The 60 aspiring female gamers and broadcasters, chosen from more than 1,000 applicants, were awarded grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 for items that include conference travel, equipment upgrades, and instructional programs related to creative or artistic pursuits. We even have one broadcaster from Montana who is looking for upgrades so she can stream outdoors

This is what we heard from fall BroadcastHER grant winner Carrie Swidecki when she learned of her win: “This is amazing! I’ll use the grant to go to E3 and buy equipment needed to stream my next marathon world!

What an amazing 2018 it has been, especially for our BroadcastHER program with Twitch. We can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store!
