Did you know January is National Mentoring Month?! What a great theme to start the year!
But, the truth is that we celebrate the power of mentorship all year long with our MentorHER Initiative.
We’re excited to officially kick off the FIFTH year of MentorHER, which pairs women in college, graduate school, and recent graduates with professionals and executives, based on their career goals and aspirations.
Renewing its multi-year commitment, Colgate-Palmolive is returning as the Title Sponsor of the program. We’ll be working with this incredible company by enlisting their employee mentors to empower women and accelerate their progress into leadership.
But, we have even more exciting news!
In 2024, Colgate-Palmolive will be awarding nine MentorHER participants with $2,000 microgrants toward extracurricular opportunities and educational costs that help them reach their career goals and dreams. Winners will be determined through a separate application process that will open later in the year, so stay tuned!
“Colgate-Palmolive is so proud to continue our partnership with 1,000 Dreams Fund and expand our relationship to help young women succeed” said Paula Davis, Chief Communications Officer, Colgate-Palmolive. “Creating pathways to education and preparing women for the workforce is a critical aspect of Colgate’s commitment to our communities. We are grateful for 1,000 Dreams Fund’s efforts to support women around the globe through valuable mentoring that benefits everyone.”
This year, we are featuring three core MentorHER opportunities:
- Our traditional 1:1, 60-minute virtual MentorHER mentoring sessions
- MentorHER Workshops, which features speakers who present to a curated student audiences on a wide range of topics — from women leading in the workplace, to best practices for the job search and interview process, to how to get hired, and more.
- MentorHER Day, which brings together partners and students for one impactful day. During this event, our partners offer insight and learnings to our students, who get to shadow professionals at their company headquarters.
Additional companies joining 1DF in their commitment to supporting MentorHER include Kendra Scott and HARMAN International, with more organizations to be announced in the coming months.
It’s going to be a great year!
Since its launch in 2019, MentorHER has provided more than 1,000 hours of mentorship to students and has received support from leading Fortune 500 companies as well as small businesses and nonprofits.
Mentoring is so vital — especially for young women. It shows students what’s possible for their lives. Unfortunately, as we know, many students lack access to networks and professional contacts that can provide meaningful mentorship.
According to 1DF’s “State of the American Girl“™ research, 70% of American women, ages 18-25, say they’ve never had a mentor. MentorHER was created to make it easier for busy professionals to volunteer while increasing more opportunities for underserved students to find a mentor who can accelerate growth in school and beyond.
