‘1000 Dreams Fund’ Update: Maria’s Dream to Design

This fall after a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo we were able to fund 13 dreams of young women nationwide. Some girls used the funding to help pay for school books, another girl purchased a camera, and others used it to study abroad.

For the next few months we will be catching up with the 1000 Dreams recipients and sharing their stories. This week we are following up with Maria an innovative designer.

How did you use the 1000 Dreams Grant?

I will be using the grant to buy a computer to use in college next year to study graphic design.

How is this helping you get closer to your dream?

This is helping me get closer to my dream because the price of the programs and technology are expensive. The programs are also very important to have to help me do graphic design.

What advice do you have for other young women looking to go for their dreams?

Don’t let a big dream scare you.

Any setbacks? How did you get around them?

I did have setbacks because many people thought that it was not wise of me to go into something that not many people get jobs out of college, but I didn’t let them stop me. I knew that if I was determined that I could do anything I set my mind to.

What’s next for you? What is your next goal?

Next for me is college and my next goal is to have a good time and get an internship abroad one summer.
