‘1000 Dreams Fund’ Update: Clara Reaching for the Stars her Freshman Year

This fall after a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo we were able to fund 13 dreams of young women nationwide. Some girls used the funding to help pay for school books, another girl purchased a camera, and others used it to study abroad.

For the next few months we will be catching up with the #1000Dream recipients and sharing their stories. This week we are following up with Clara, our dreamer who loves the stars.

How did you use the 1000 Dreams Grant?

I will be using the money to pay for the cost of textbooks the fall of my freshman year in college.

How is this helping you get closer to your dream?

I never thought that I would have the opportunity or the means to attend a school that people dream about going to. The money for textbooks will help me pay for materials which are necessary for classroom instruction.

What advice do you have for other young women looking to go for their dreams?

My advice for young women looking to follow their dreams is first and foremost to have confidence in themselves. It’s so important to consider others, but it’s also important to remember oneself.

Any setbacks? How did you get around them?

My family has always been incredibly supportive of me. I’ve consistently had amazing teachers. I feel very lucky.

What’s next for you? What is your next goal?

I hope to continue my studies this fall in college, and I plan to study Earth and Planetary Sciences. I hope wherever I go that I am able to make at least a small difference in the lives of the people around me.
